In 1798 it was used by the government for a military prison.In the 19 Century two rich families used the Castle of Oron as their home. The later, The Gaiffes,lived there from 1870 to 1936 before it was purchased by a preservation society, who own ittoday. The Gaiffes family purchased about 20,000 books and they are stored in the Castle
library today. It contains many French Romantic novels of the 18th Century.
